Good to know the legends are still around and active. You go, Charlie!

I grew up just a few miles from where Charlie grew up -me in Jackson, MS and him near Yazoo City, MS. We both played baseball but everything was segregated then and we never crossed paths. Years later he and I lived in Dallas at the same time and had many mutual friends. We never crossed paths then either. So, I almost know Charlie. :-)

The Mrs I sat at the table next to him and his wife in Lakewood one evening at a restaurant. He invited us out to his place for a BBQ he was having the next weekend. He’s without a doubt one great singer and throws good BBQ’s too.

Isn't Charlie a big Texas Rangers' fan... maybe even owns a part of the team?

I am pretty sure I used to see him at a lot of games when the Rangers played in old Arlington Stadium... and I think I saw him at last season's World Series.

he first African American in country music to land a No. 1 hit.

Charlie's African American??? All these years I thought he was a baseball player who sang country like nobody else ever has. I've kissed my angel good morning every day since he sang that song 40 years ago (and loved her like the devil when the sun goes down!)...

I'm glad he is still alive. I haven't heard a word about him in years and I actually thought he had passed away.

I always loved “You’re My Jamaica”.

My favorites are "Kaw-Liga" (the live version) and "Kiss an Angel Good Morning".

I particularly like the latter because it strongly advocated GAY MARRIAGE.

Hold on before passing out due that that last comment. :-)

I define a gay marriage as a HAPPY marriage between one MAN and one WOMAN as Almighty God intended. Yes, I'm an old fogie who wants the word "gay" restored to its original meaning before the homosexual lobby corrupted that perfectly fine word for their deviant purposes.

If I am not mistaken, he once played professional baseball, in the minors.

Shall we now "light up a fag"? :-)

Kiss An Angel Good Morning and Charlie Rich’s Behind Closed Doors are perfect songs for the conservative movement, if there is such a thing anymore.

I'll also add "My Woman, My Woman, My Wife" by Marty Robbins to that list.

Hmmm...maybe a thread is in order to compile a list of songs that express pro-God, pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-gun, pro-military Conservative values. I'd wager that a large percentage will be from the C&W and Southern Gospel genres. Conversely, those with such sound values from the world of rap and hip-hop will doubtlessly form the null set.

Sorry this is off the subject somewhat. The other evening at the restaurant counter we were talking about some of these country singers and then someone ask the question, who sang “Behind Closed Doors”. None of us could remember, anyone here want to help us out?

Wholley molley, I think it just came to me......was it Charlie Rich?

I haven’t spoken with him in over ten years but the last I remember he was a solid Rangers fan who tried to attend spring camp when he could.
