So I watched Season of the Witch, the new Nicholas Cage-in-a-medieval-smock-type-garment film, tonight, and I thought that, since I watch a fair amount of movies, why not give a try at telling you all about them. Especially because this movie actually made me think.
No, no. Not about the plot, necessarily, although the plot was pretty entertaining, and the story moved along at a decent pace.
And I didn't think much about the dialog. Or, to be more precise, the thoughts I had about the dialog aren't very positive. I'm no expert, but it seemed like they didn't even bother trying to make any of the relationships or conversations realistic to the times that the movie was set in.
And I wasn't overly impressed with the acting, mostly featuring Nicholas Cage and that guy from Sons of Anarchy. At no point in the movie did I ever stop thinking of them as anyone other than Nicholas Cage and that guy from Sons of Anarchy, so I don't think the acting was really all that great.

Just when you think the movie will be another anti-Christian piece showing the “typical hollywood” medieval peasant girl falsely accused of witchcraft, judged by the “typical hollywood” out of touch and corrupt priest that wants to kill her...IT TURNS OUT THE GIRL IS A DEMON AFTER ALL! LOL Totally unexpected twist! The priests in the movie were right all along!!!
We are satisfied with so pitifully little now. Thanks, Hollywood.
I can’t stand Nicholas Cage. Nothing personal, maybe he’s a fine fellow in real life, but I can’t stand him in a movie.
Try watching last year’s Solomon Kane, I recommend it. James Purefoy was best known as the horndog emperor in HBO’s Rome but in a reversal, played the evil pirate turned good guy who escaped the clutches of the devil. It turned into a good vs evil movie and gave props to the Church. Yeah, there’s a witch in it too.
Wasn’t this released in January?
Sounds like he was trying for a do-over of the atrocious The Wicker Man and failed miserably again.
The Wicker Man was awesome!
