Bushwhacked the third episode of Fireflys only, abbreviated season - contained one of the late, lamented cult classics most haunting moments. With his rickety smugglers ship about to be boarded and searched by The Alliance, Mal decided to hide fugitive siblings Simon Tam and River from the authorities by sealing them up in spacesuits and stowing them outside. Simon skeptical that mere Mylar and glass could protect him from the nothing of space shuddered in fear. Incapable of even peeking at the infinite star-dotted expanse at his back, the buttoned-up doctor kept his eyes focused on Serenitys steel hull like a quivering acrophobe terrified of looking down. Not so his sister. Gazing into the abyss, Rivers face to lit up with rapt wonder. The nothing seemed to quiet the agonizing chaotic riot of her broken internal world. Noting her spacey-mystical bliss, Simon shivered some more and clung harder to Serenitys battered iron.

A Firefly post is always a good and welcome thing! (-:

beat most and it was on cable
I got the DVD set that includes the unaired episodes and I got the movie when it came out on DVD.
Darn, sure did like that series.
I thought it was originally carried by Fox over the air? My understanding is that they kept moving the time slot and letting it get pre-empted by random sporting events.
If true, 4.48M viewers would be quite impressive, as people had to actually seek it out.
I missed Firefly when it first came out, so I’m seeing them for the first time. I had heard that it was really good... and it hasn’t disappointed. It’s really well done.
I did finally see the movie, before the “re-watch” started.
One of the many truly good shows to not make it on TV. I don’t understand how a show like American Idol can be wildly popular and a show like this doesn’t even make it.
“I aim to misbehave”.
I didn’t see Firefly in the original broadcast (I was introducted to it by dvd a couple of years ago), but I thought Firefly was on the Fox broadcast channel.
The Ballad of Serenity by Sonny Rhodes - Firefly Lyrics
Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don’t care, I’m still free
You can’t take the sky from me.
Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain’t comin’ back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can’t take the sky from me.
Leave the men where they lay
They’ll never see another day
Lost my soul, lost my dream
You can’t take the sky from me.
I feel the black reaching out
I hear its song without a doubt
I still hear and I still see
That you can’t take the sky from me.
Lost my love, lost my land
Lost the last place I could stand
There’s no place I can be
Since I’ve found Serenity
And you can’t take the sky from me.

The first Reaver was named Mohammed. That should explain things.
Browncoats = Tea Partiers.
Browncoats are the people who tried to stand up to the Alliance of Core worlds that wanted their own independence fron the tyranny of the core worlds and failed.
Perfect!
Yo-Saf-Bridge. Just don’t kiss her on the mouth...
back in 2002, FOX was mostly a cable channel.
still is today in some markets (and unavailable in some markets as well)
O, I’m a good old brown coat,
Now that’s just what I am,
For this “Fair Alliance of Freedom”
I do not care care a damn;
I’m glad I fit against it —
I only wish we’d won,
And I don’t want no pardon
For anything I done.
The abject mishandling of Firefly by FOX across the board was a travesty.
If Netflix is into making its own TV shows now.. my vote is to bring this one back.
After a fit of daring in approving Firefly, Fox monkeyed with its tenor and botched the episode sequencing and scheduling. Firefly did not have a fair chance to develop an audience. In contrast, the marginal CW kept with Supernatural and nursed it into a modest success for six seasons, with another season likely.
