“As I made a note of the name on his badge. Hannaford’s will be getting a letter.”

Somehow, “WRITE LETTERS OF TRUTH TO POWER!” just doesn't have the same zing...

Often people who are late are habitually late. The way the manager addressed her, it sounds like that may be the case. But it’s wrong to dress down a worker in front of customers. It makes the customer uncomfortable.

It was funny to note that the DU’er get a better price and produce from a nonunion shop. Perhaps there’s a lesson there for the Dummie, like unions drive up cost? Nah.

By the way, has anyone checked DU after Obama said today Gitmo is a necessary thing? How are they taking it?

Foreign strawberries? Here in FL I consider California strawberries foreign. Last time I was up in New England I was surprised to see FL strawberries in the winter but I don’t think I’ve seen honest to god foreign ones.

I usually avoid the local Hannaford's (a New England based chain) because they're non-union. BUT. I had other stops to make in the same shopping center. BUT. They have the best produce, good prices, and the best local/organic food section around.

The concepts of "cause" and "effect" never penetrate the mind of a liberal. There is no room for logic with all the emotion that fills their brains.

[Probably 58, which is ANCIENT!]

Happy Birthday, Charles; may God give you many more! And 58 isn't ancient - take it from one who was born in the first year of the baby boomers. 65 - now that's ANCIENT!

“Often people who are late are habitually late.”

Way off topic, but my wife got into the habit of going in late for work. Also got into the habit of staying late. Some manager (not hers) berated her as she strolled in at 9:30 a.m. But, her boss overheard. Her boss called the other guy and my wife into his office and closed the door. Ripped into the other manager about how great a job my wife did, stayed late which was great ‘cuz he did, could still get stuff to Fed Ex at 7:00 pm, on and on, etc. Then told the other manager to mind his own business and to apologize to my wife!

There is of course the issue of do you take this person’s story at face value, but giving the poster the benefit of the doubt, you should avoid reprimanding a worker in public, both from a sales perspective as well as a management perspective.

PJ, I don’t know how compelling of a Dummies Funnies this one is, though I love most of your other ones.

Happy Birthday

DUmmies have no idea how tough it is for a business if employees are late, do they?

It was grossly inappropriate for the manager to dress down any employee in front of a customer. This may be the first time I’ve agreed with any DUmmie. On anything.

I had a bunch of errands to run yesterday, including a supermarket run. I usually avoid the local Hannaford's (a New England based chain) because they're non-union. BUT. I had other stops to make in the same shopping center. BUT. They have the best produce, good prices, and the best local/organic food section around.

So the DUmmiee shops at a lower quality store simply because they are Union and can't figure out why the non-Union store has better product and lower prices. Probabley because they can get rid of the bad employees who cost the company money in poor service and damage to products in addition to Union contracts. Therefore better products and lower prices.

In my are the non-union supermarket also is generally cleaner with more knowledgeable employees and has better quality products than the Union store. Strange.

I'm at the checkout with my fairly sizable order--and of course, I eschew the self-checkouts for the human ones.

They do know that a human does watches those. Right? Just a higher machine to human ratio, typically 5 registers to one cashier or so. Who knows maybe they moved the former cashiers to other jobs within the store to improve service instead of having them scan groceries. They do know that the more cashiers, the higher the payroll, the higher your costs. Never mind, that's using logic.
