And seat belts are ineffective in a vehicle fire. So what's your point? Obviously the antibiotics are used for bacterial pneumonia.

Yes, my point was that people assume incorrectly that bacterial infection always acompanies the influenza infection and want antibiotics anytime they have a virus. This, according to the experts in infectious disease, is a primary cause of antibiotic resistance and is not in keeping with current medical recommendations.
