In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.
Once such understanding is acquired, it is very difficult to return to a life of sensory deprivation.

The title caught my attention and I was struck with this thought.
“What Would Free Men Do”
Well IMO, the founding fathers, if all brought back from the dead today, would take one look at our Commander in Chief, the congress and senate. It would take them about 5 minutes of serious discussion before they loaded their weapons shot the lot of them and locked the doors.
After that, I suppose that they would add a line or two to the constitution regarding the necessity of government officials to be representative of their districts under penalty of death.
May be off topic, but it was what first came to mind.
There really is no point to “peacefully assemble” if there is no possibility to grab arms.
At best “peacefully assemble” could inform the people and rally them to defend their rights. But if they have not arms they will simply be massacred by the heavily armed government, like the Libyans among countless other examples.
Thank you for posting. Tagline fodder there.
