The legal minimum for an Illinois public school year is 176 days of “pupil attendance.” If a school doesn’t meet that minimum, they lose 1/176th (.56818%) of their state funding for each day they fall short.

(Public) schools must be in session for 175 days, and must include “x” number of hours. Most public school districts schedule 181+ days

Wisconsin also requires 875 hours of instruction per academic year which usually takes place over the course of 175 days

A large part of the Wisconsin population has German ancestry, but no German names on the list of holidays. There are holidays honoring Anglo-Americans, African-Americans, a Pole, a Norseman who probably never saw what is not the US, but no Germans. Achtung! Wir haben hier ethnische Diskrimination!

Not sure who would be the best to add to the list--Beethoven? Goethe? Schiller? Von Steuben?

Maybe should find someone whose birthday is either between late June and early August, or between Chrismas and New Year's, so that celebrating his birthday wouldn't mean cancelling a day of school.
