Hmmm, any chance that SOF story is online anywhere? I've never seen them online.
Nobody quotes or cites them, but SOF had an in-depth discussion, years ago, in a special two-parter about what the Desert One operation was supposed to do, as well as why it went wrong, drawing on an Air Force officer who'd been involved and saw it all. It would have been "teh AWESOME" and Mr. "I'm a Dinner Jacket" probably would not be with us today. Nor most of the mullahs' Quds Brigade either, for that matter.
Soldier of Fortune has the best stories that you wont even see on FR.
Before I stopped subscribing I think it was 2009, I remember 2 great articles that I still cite on FR.
1) The heartbreaking story of the “remaining” Vietnamese currently in hiding who helped American soldiers during the Vietnam war.
2) A 5 pages spread on American, British and Aussie ex-Special Forces who helped the Christian Sudanese even the odds against the Al Qaeda backed Muslim Sudanese. The mercs were doing this on their free time because they themselves are Christians and just didn’t want Christians being slaughtered by their Muslim counterparts..so they trained and smuggled ammo into Sudan.
That was years ago and now South Sudan is a reality. Now what other magazine will you read these stuff from?
