A weekend report from the New York Times that former Democratic Senator Chris Dodd (Conn.) is set to become the new chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America appears to support the movie industry lobbying group's stance that reports of its demise have been greatly exaggerated.
According to the Times, the 30-year Senate veteran is poised to take over the $1.2 million position and the job of coordinating the policy goals of the various member studios.
Dodd's hiring comes after reports that several candidates turned down the chance to represent Hollywood on K Street. The job is strongly associated with iconic MPAA chief Jack Valenti, whose 38-year reign ended in 2004.

Should be in prison ping.
Do you ever wonder?
Do you ever stop and pause?
Ask yourself why the same old corrupt retreads seem to get these high profile positions, without having any real related experience, other than face time before the benign, happy face media, who are totally unable to investigate anything beyond Gov. Palin?
I do, and the answer I see isn’t pretty!
Good - another reason to hate the MPPA in particular and the movie industry in general.
..and that’s just the surface rust on this crappy used car reality they try to sell us everyday!
Indeed.- and his friends.
should be in prison ping.
Well said, and yes, I do wonder, but not for long. It is clear that we’ve created a class of political royalty. This is little different than the gentile class in old Europe. They don’t wok real jobs, they and their children go to exclusive schools and vacation in exclusive spots, they hobnob with the leisure class, and they don’t have the same concerns in life that we do.
Dirty Dodd he always reminded me of one of those bit actor’s who portrayed a dishonest used car salesman. He got two of those friends of Angelo home loans. Then Towne locked the doors and kept out the Republicans and the dems squashed the investigation. But now Issa is on the trail, if there really is any justice we may see him in prison one day.
Dodd is a criminal!
It’s the hair!!!!
Dodd’s just awfully similar to Valente’s, which is the Hollywood ideal of the distinguished statesman.
i remember watching cspan the bush admin trying to rein in Freddy and Fannie, how they(dems) all called the republicans evil.
Barney Frank saying nothing was wrong with the finances of those. Both Frank and Dodd should be in the same cell.
Battle Royale rocks. I even liked the sequel.
I got the sequel as well. Definitely good ! I saw the original at the university anime club meeting a few years ago. Kind of a shame that it will not be released into the US market !
I won’t let my kid watch it even with him being 11 years old !
