Shut down the Federal Government
Mark Levin Fan ^ | 2-16-2011 | Mark Levin

"We cannot allow our children and our grandchildren to be burdened with 65-85% tax rates. We cannot allow them to be burdened with a massive government-run health care system that doesn’t care for them nor provide them with health.

This isn’t about the Republican leadership and Barack Obama. This is about you and me; the citizens of this country. We’re not on the sidelines. We’re right in the middle of the stadium. We own the damn stadium and the whole field. This government belongs to us.

They’re talking about our future, the future of children and grandchildren. They’re talking about our money and their money. Money yet earned. They don’t get to make these decisions without our input and without our consent. And I’ll be damned if I’m going to consent to impoverish my children and grandchildren because Barack Obama insists on it.

And I don’t care how the Republican leadership responds to it. I care how WE respond to it. The Tea Party activists. The conservatives. Individuals who don’t know what the hell they are. Who cares? From coast to coast. We will not sit idly by and allow this society to be destroyed for our children and grandchildren. Period! I don’t give a damn who the President of the United States is or what he demands.

One day, all of these politicians will be gone. They’re here temporarily. And yet their damage will be everlasting. It will be perpetual unless we, the American people, take a stand.

And we cannot and we must not leave it up to Washington DC to straighten it out, because they got us in this mess to begin with. So, if it’s Obama’s position that this budget is what it needs to be; which does not address a single entitlement; which is larded with massive tax increases; which is larded with one massive deficit spending plan after another; then shut the damn government down.

Because if we don’t, Obama will destroy the whole thing."

...

"This is what he (Obama) wants. He wants you eating out of his hand. He and his ilk. That is the Leftists, the Statists.

They want you reliant on your energy, on your food, on your survival, on your health care. Reliant on THEM. This is why we must draw the line now and say, “screw you!”"

Levin said more than that. I didn’t want to transcribe his entire monologue. Just the last couple minutes. Why don’t you listen to the full audio?

You do know it’s happened before, right?

The citizens of the U.S. need to “go Egypt,” but they are too chickenshi’ite to do it.

Congress needs to be cancelled out, and the squatters and freeloaders occupying our White House and spending our money as if it were theirs need to be thrown out now.

I heard the whole thing live. His main point was that the GOP shouldn't fear a government shutdown, which is true as far as it goes. But Mark just isn't realistic about how this play is going to unfold. We aren't going to have astronomical tax rates; we are going to have a fiscal crisis and Republicans should be planning for it.

Within the next two years the federal government will no longer be able to beg, borrow or steal the money to fund its operations at current levels. The fed won't be able to close the gap by buying more government debt at absurdly low rates because inflation will be starting to run out of control. Government borrowing costs will rise sharply and we wont’ be able to borrow as much as the politicians want to spend at any price. Both the government and the economy will be in an unholy mess.

Obama will argue that the mess is all a result of Republican budget cutting. He's already started rolling that argument out. Republicans need to lay the foundation for a strong counter attack. Our political future depends on which party gets blamed for the fiscal crisis of 2012.

Levin's whole monologue attached far too much importance to trivial budget cutting and totally ignored the larger strategic picture. Any cuts the GOP is prepared to consider now are going to be grossly inadequate. In the scheme of things, it doesn't really matter much whether we spend $3.6 T or $3.7 T. Whatever happens in DC this year, we're in for a bumpy ride and the important thing is how we come out at the end. It would be nice to hear a bit more recognition of that reality from the “Great One.”

I’m all for the shutdown. Of course it isn’t a total shutdown, we will just be forced to live off the current incoming proceeds. I think that is 75% of the current spend rate.

I highly doubt that there is any plan on what programs will be supported and what will not. On March 3rd the government will suddenly panic and try to figure it out to no avail. Will it be madness or is there an established process?
