It doesn't look like Barack Obama will need to get his original birth certificate to state officials to be on the presidential ballot in Arizona next year.
On a 5-3 vote Monday, the Senate Judiciary Committee defeated SB 1526 which would let Arizona impose its own requirements on what someone needs to prove before being on the ballot in the state. Three Republicans voted with the two Democrats on the panel to kill the plan offered by Sen. Ron Gould, R-Lake Havasu City.
Virtually identical legislation was introduced in the House in the form of HB 2544. But that measure has never gotten a hearing....
...Each of the measures would preclude a presidential candidate from appearing on the Arizona ballot unless party officials provided certain information to the Secretary of State's Office. That includes an original "long-form birth certificate" complete with the name of the hospital, attending physician and signatures of witnesses, to a sworn statement that the candidate had two parents who were citizens at the time of the child's birth.
"I think it's inappropriate for the state of Arizona to establish its own criteria for a federal office that goes beyond what the (U.S.) Constitution requires," said Sen. John McComish, R-Phoenix. And Sen. Adam Driggs, R-Phoenix, said this could create a situation where each of the 50 states would be screening presidential candidates using different standards.
Add independents to your statement.
Any one that has served more than one term is part of the problem.
Frack!
The numbers given are an amazing indictment of Repugnicans.
Just two Dems on the 8-member committee, and still the Repugnican-sponsored bill fails -- because three idiots who got themselves elected by virtue of having an "R" beside their names went along with the minority Democrats! And concocted the weakest possible excuse for killing the "natural-born citizenship" bill.
Next time I get one of those letters from the RNC or the RSCC begging for a donation to "help us put more Republicans in Congress," I think I'll send it back with a copy of this story as my reason for not contributing.
Seems to me we need to get a 33yo illegal alien to run in the next election.
“”I think it’s inappropriate for the state of Arizona to establish its own criteria for a federal office that goes beyond what the (U.S.) Constitution requires,” said Sen. John McComish, R-Phoenix.”
Arizona has virtually had to cede its sovereignty over the lower 100 miles of the state. And this guy is OK with having an undocumented President?
This is the State that sent John McCain back to the Senate.
I had great hopes for them, but they chickened out.
It shows the power of this Socialist movement.
Ain't that a bitch. The candidate can be an illegal alien.
“Ain’t that a bitch. The candidate can be an illegal alien.”
Only if the candidate is Democrat nominee. If there is any doubt with a Republican nominee, there better be some pictures of that baby coming out of the womb with the Statue of Liberty in the background.
THE FIX IS STILL IN.
This is stunning news!! Did someone get to these three clowns?
I would assume the governor did. The immigration problem is drain enough on the state. They already have a big enough battle to deal with at the current time. Knowing Brewer's record, one should not expect her to sign the bill either.
WTF?
“Shove Arnold up your ass!!”
Give him a break...he was making a point.
WTH, these people are lying pieces of feces.
I agree with you. The immigration attack was staged to set Arizona up as racists. The left only cares about power. They don’t care about our constitution or our national sovereignty.
They are a large group of national traitors.
They have already started setting Georgia up for a fake immigration attack. Hopefully, our state will tell them to STFU.
We have I-75 and a major airport hub. The socialist can’t bypass our state and the very least will have to spend money going through us.
Exactly!
Even if none of these laws requiring proof of eligibility pass, I am very encouraged that they were introduced at all.
Behind each of these laws are sponsors that are completely P*****! These state legislators do have political clout within their states or they wouldn’t have gotten elected. And...Many of these guys and gals are attorneys.
