Keep in mind that under Mubarak, anyone opposing him or the gov’t got arrested...that includes bloggers. So many of the people released were young dissidents too, not just radical islamists.

I think you miss the underlying point. They are 'risking their lives' because the issue suits the left, and anti-westernism.
They are not investigating ACORN or SEIU or the myriad treasons of the left in the US. All of which they could do without rocks being thrown at them. (All they would face a 20% chance of Ft. Marcy Parkicide).
