Super Cyclone Yasi Heads For Queensland With UPDATES
PA Pundits International ^ | 31 January 2011 | TonyfromOz

Posted on 02/01/2011 9:23:47 PM PST by TonyfromOz

This cyclone is now infinitely worse even than Hurricane Katrina in every respect. One link shows an overlay of this Cyclone over Continental U.S. and it covers virtually the whole of the U.S. There is also a link to live radio coverage from the affected area, now extending along a 1500 mile stretch of the Queensland Coastline. People have been told the time for evacuation has passed, and now they are on their own, and have been warned to lock themselves in their bathrooms, and bunker up, for what could be a day or two. Winds at the core are already in the vicinity of 200MPH. This deadly Cyclone is timed to hit at around 10PM local time.

Thanks Tony,
I heard from my friend in OZ that it is far worse than Katrina (Cat 3) this is a Cat 5 in a already soaken ground. I pray for Austraila the next day and hope everyone heeded the warnings. Keep up the postings.

It may be more powerful than Katrina but the land of Oz sure ain’t like New Orleans.

Australia doesn’t have the same or even close population density or infrastructure like the area around New Orleans, they will get quite a blow but its not the end of the world.

That will provide little comfort to those people who live in Queensland.

This is without question one of THE biggest, baddest storms I have ever seen on approach to landfall. Count on this doing very widespread, serious serious devastation. Ghastly. This is hurricane Andrew plus-plus.

Wow, the last time I heard something about it was cat 2. I will include the people of Queensland in my prayers tonight.

Katrina was a strong hurricane, but not even the strongest one of that season. I don’t know why they’re using it as a benchmark. Good luck to everyone in Yasi’s path.

That is to scale, and yes, Australia is roughly the size of the lower 48, with 90% fewer people.

Brisbane population density: 2377 per sq mile

New Orleans population density: 2683 per sq mile.

Brisbane metro population: 2.1 million

New Orleans metro population (pre-Katrina): 1.4 million.

You were saying?

So inquiring and bored minds may want to know, how much of Brisbane is built below sea level, or has a lake the size of Pontchartrain next to it?

Seems to me a few people are getting their egos bruised too easily here at FR.

I also doubt Brisbane has the population type that will allow itself to perform the countless political blunders like what happened in NO, they know better by reviewing OUR mistakes and won’t herd the people or shut them down from evacuation like they did in NO, they also don’t have an inept FEMA either.

Australians are tougher than Americans, they will survive.

While some talk here is about Brisbane, Cyclone Yasi is expected to make landfall near Cairns, which is around 1,100 miles to the North of Brisbane.
Brisbane will have no problems whatsoever from this Storm, even with the magnitude it is.
