“Take even 20 minutes of speech class, and youll learn that a deep voice and slow, measured speech results in people hanging onto your every syllable like Wiley Coyote hanging onto a cliff twig”
Spoken by someone ignorant of Krauthammer’s condition. He can’t help the way he speaks due to his paralysis.
You’re mistaken and quite rude. If that’s all you’ve got, I’ll be merciful as usual and ignore you.
He talks the way he does because he is a quadrapedic. You notice that by the way he breathes when talking..
Is he still a gun grabbing elitist who thinks we should lose our RKBA for our own good?
Has he ever renounced his anti-RKBA pronouncements?
You’re absolutely right. When you talk to a Brit with an upper class accent you think he is sooooooo bright until you realize he is a dumb as a stump.
Can be at least a little bit taught. Interpreted differently in NYC, however, where slow speech is seen as a sign of hick idiocy. (NY minute and all...) Lower pitch that falls at the end of sentences especially key in conveying dominance and authority.
We had spare ribs & kraut for dinner last night.
After dinner I got hammered.
One could say he talks that way to control stuttering, too. Certainly it could be a factor. He’s obviously capable of hitting higher notes and talking faster, and elects not to do so.
Nevertheless, my earlier post was addressing the effect, not the cause or Krauthammer’s intentions.
Regardless the reason anyone does it, low and slow is powerful speech.
I learned to speak in that infernal region myself. Now living in rural PA, I often find that people are rattled by my rapid fire delivery. They think I'm stressed or even angry. They ask me to calm down or slow down, and yet in Manhattan I'm considered quite mild, especially for a woman.
The contrast is such that when, occasionally, I get some receptionist or clerk on the phone who talks the way I do, I know immediately they're not from around here either, and our dialogue is all protein, quickly concluded. Usually I have to thumb my English-Vegetable Dictionary.
Ok, that was over the top :D But I do have to be careful when speaking to a hick what-you-said.
This isn't a criticism, but perception is everything in a campaign.
“All protein”—great metaphor!
“given his disability.”
Liberal warning sign.
Always notice someones skin color or disability and point it out, as if the rest of of didn’t notice, when we (Conservatives) don’t define people that way.
p.s. Especially when we are discussing his intellect which doesn’t seem to be impaired by anything but occasional bouts of liberalism.
No, he hasn't Matt. Krauthammer is a statist elitist who serves what Angelo Codevilla terms "the Ruling Class", as opposed to "the Country Class", which is the rest of us poor schmucks. His fans rave about his brilliance, but his brilliance is never used to defend and advocate the rights and freedoms of We the People. With him it's always about economic, military and geo-political power games. Krauthammer doesn't give a 'rodentia gluteus' about "the People".
Here's the quote I always post when people insist that he's a conservative. It usually ends the argument pretty quickly:
"Ultimately, a civilized society must disarm its citizenry if it is to have a modicum of domestic tranquility of the kind enjoyed by sister democracies such as Canada and Britain. Given the frontier history and individualist ideology of the United States, however, this will not come easily. It certainly cannot be done radically. It will probably take one, maybe two generations. It might be 50 years before the United States gets to where Britain is today. Passing a law like the assault weapons ban is a symbolic - purely symbolic - move in that direction. Its only real justification is not to reduce crime but to desensitize the public to the regulation of weapons in preparation for their ultimate confiscation." - Charles Krauthammer, "Disarm the Citizenry," The Washington Post, Friday, April 5, 1996, page A19
He has never recanted or renounced this position. Therefore, despite all his "brilliance", he is merely one of the cleverer, and thus more dangerous, enemies of freedom.
Try a source other than Wikipedia....and also if you are going to talk about him..quote ALL the info about him, not just the ‘left” parts.
You do this EVERY time the thread is about CK..and its always a biased, the same post...That is what Libs do, they cherry pick quotes and distort. At least be honest and accurate.
Wow, right on about Palin, but Alan Keyes??????? He is one of the most articulate, powerful, mesmerizing speakers I have ever heard. One of the best.
Totally agree. I pray daily for the chance to vote for her in 2012, but she needs to work on the delivery. Whether we like it or not, we humans respond positively to low-and-slow in a leader’s voice. Women in particular need to compensate for their naturally higher notes, to be taken seriously by the majority.
She’s clearly working on it though.
If we’re very blessed she will revert to bubbly in the early election night victory speech. Libs will rend their garments. :D

Darn it thats why my kids never listened to me...:O(
See 53. Your response?
YMMV, I adore Keyes but his delivery is manic to my ears. Tries to pack in way too much, like they have a stopwatch on him. Which they apparently do, most of the time (interviews, debates, etc.)
To people who aren’t already familiar with his ideas, it’s a turnoff. There’s no time to absorb anything.
