This news could either clear the primary field, or in fact, make it more muddled as other candidates join the fray. DeMint's announcement is not altogether unexpected, but it made clear his intentions. He had previously denied running for President, but many believed that the door could still be open due to excess spending and big government policies.
There is also a nascent 'Draft Jim DeMint' movement on the internet and his name is mentioned even in higher political circles. Last week he came in fifth in the New Hampshire straw poll above Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee. Despite the announcement, there will likely still be calls for his candidacy.

“Senate Majority Leader would also be a great role for him. Hed bring class back to the position.”
I read in an article awhile back that DeMint had plans to knock Mitch McConnell off. Hope he makes it happen. He would be great as Senate majority leader. I was hoping he would run for President but there are other good candidates.
DeMint is a good man.
He will accept a VP slot with Romney if Mitt is the choice. Anyone wanna bet?

LOL

LOL
I mean... really, what more can one say than, "LOL", the whole idea of ROMNEY/Demint simply doesn't deserve a response, ya know????
I learned my lesson with McCain-Palin. Just can’t do it again.
In addition to the Tea Party, DeMint would also help Romney in the south. I pray DeMint says no.
The sharks are out for all conservatives, particularly Governor Sarah Palin, and Senator DeMint is not one to back-away, so that is not his reason.
I think he wants to get that pukey Senate in line.

An aide to Sen. Jim DeMint (R., S.C.) tells CNN’s Peter Hamby he’s open to a presidential run if none of the other contenders proves sufficiently popular - or conservative - enough. DeMint will address a forum hosted by Rep. Steve King (R., Iowa) in the Hawkeye State on March 26, though advisor Matt Hoskins insists in an e-mail, “Senator DeMint has absolutely no plans to run for president.
