I can't believe how many people are advising running to the vet over dirty ears.
I guess there are not a lot of farm people on this board. If I had to call the vet for every silly little thing like this, I'd be broke.

Clean your dogs ears with ear cleaner once or twice a day until it clears up, and then make sure you clean them every week. Ear cleaner can be found at any pet store.

If your dog shows signs of pain or if it doesn't clear up after a few days, then call your vet.

Thanks.

Any particular brand of ear cleaner you use? I think you are probably right. We had hunting dogs when I was a kid, and we generally only went to the vet in the odd emergency. Anyway, I kind of like the home remedies and it seems like the ear cleaners seem to be using ‘acetic acid’ which is essentially apple cider vinegar.

But, I want to be careful, so the first time I will go to the vet, and spend some $$.

A farm dog is a farm dog.

A family pet is a bit more than that.

My dogs are household pets and highly trained competitive athletes as well. We don't mess around with medical issues. After awhile you learn what is critical and what isn't, but this is not going to clear up without the Otomax, which is prescription, and the vet isn't going to write without seeing the dog.

I’ve always wondered how wild dogs/wolves/coyotes etc can along without a vet. We have yorkies (one is worth over $1500) and heelers and used to have Great Danes. Have very low vet visits as we do what people used to do. Also wondered why wild canines don’t get ear infections. I also don’t believe in all the vaccinations that vets recommend. Lowers their own bodies resistance.
