true of the liberal/Democrat elite but Independents just plain old liked the guy. Even Conservative Dems liked him. He was eloquent and cheerful (described once as Barry Goldwater with a smile) known for his roles in movies as usually a good guy and was a successful two term Governor. The media had not and could not destroy him. Palin however is NOT liked by a majority of Independents - the media did a great job of destroying her credibility and i dont know how she comes back from it. She certainly did herself no favors with her Tucson response that is for sure.

Independents, as we know now “liked the guy”, but that is NOT what the polls were telling people at the time.
Polls are lies, they appeal to your ego and need to know what everyone else is thinking/doing, but you, and the pollsters, do NOT know what people are thinking/doing.
If it were true, democrat pollsters would NOT report it.
Obama had a MILLION crazy things about him, and any reasonable person would have thought him UNELECTABLE outside of Chicago.
But today’s politics is all about upsetting applecarts, and Palin can do that.
