Lincoln - a sitting president -was told by the then GOP leadership he couldn’t possibly beat McClellan in 1864.

Funny, I don’t recall ever reading about President McClellan....just the disgraced and twice-fired general.

Lincoln - a sitting president -was told by the then GOP leadership he couldn’t possibly beat McClellan in 1864.

Lincoln was abandoned by the Republicans and had to form his own party, though the Republicans took him back before the election. And only after there were decisive Union battle victories.
