This has the latest UPDATE of the ongoing major flood crisis in Australia, now certainly the worst natural disaster in our history. The projected cost has been roughly calculated at around $12 Billion, but that would be the lowest starting point. This Update has many further links to videos, audio, and related stories from Victoria as well, where a one in 200 year flood is causing havoc in that State as well. In Queensland, the Premier has set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the disaster. One distasteful story is about the Greens Party Senator Bob Brown, who is blaming coal mining for this devastating flood event.
Talk about something that should be a career-ender. But what's the chance of that?
So far, the death toll hasn't surpassed that of Typhoon Tracy, which killed 71 when it flattened the city of Darwin in 1974.
That’s good news. But the property damage seems horrendous. The pictures show trashed houses (and cars !) on a significant scale. Hopefully it’s media selectivity, and I’m getting a false impression.
