This sounds very similar to Dan Rather’s reluctant and partial walk-back when it became clear that the Bush National Guard story that he aired was a total hoax.
And, it was clear that Rather launched that fabricated story and outright lie about 6 days before a national Presidential election in an attempt to throw the election. He deserved more than just being fired by CBS.
