I watched this live on MSNBC (I like to watch Ed and Mathews to see how the ‘enemy’ thinks) and it was obvious that ED was not expecting the kinds of answers that he got. The hero, Joe Zamudio, schooled dimwit Ed on Arizona and guns. When Ed tried to get into the gun control angle, Zamudio told him he had a permit for his gun and ALWAYS carries it with him because of the crazy stuff going on in Tucson. Ed kept at it and Zamudio told him guns were not the problem, that he could get an unregistered gun anytime he wanted, from Mexico, out of the back of a pickup, etc. He said he carries a gun to keep people Like Loughner from messing with his town.

Ed finally was reduced to saying, ‘well, we are out of time here, thanks for coming on the Ed show Joe’. Zamudio presented the perfect antidote to the gun control nuts, he was reasonable, legally owned his weapon, handled the situation well, and was ready to use deadly force if he had to.

I agree with Ed when he says there is a crisis when it comes to the treatment of mental illness in this country. However, it’s very likely we disagree on the methods. He asks if mentally ill people should have access to firearms. The real question, IMO, is whether the severly mentally ill should have access to society.

Joe Zamudio’s reply was perfect, accurate and the truth. Schultz did not know how to deal with the truth.

Note: In Juarez, Mexico it is illegal for a private citizen to own and possess a firearm. Last year over 3000 murders occurred in Juarez. Gun control laws do not work. Gun control laws protect the criminal!!!!!!!!!

Due to numerous lawsuits over the years they do. A great deal of this is courtesy of the ACLU.

Why did Loughner’s parents not take care of their son? Even if he is of age, they had to know he had issues. They had what looks like a voodoo shrine in the back yard? Did they not know he had the gun?

Reminds me of the shooting in Columbus, Ohio when the Damageplan concert got shot up. That shooter was mentally ill, but his mother helped him get a gun, I believe.

Mr. Zamudio seems to be a nice young man. His attitude is traditional and American. I liked his response to the question regarding whether he would have shot the bad guy - “You’re damned right I would have. This is my country. This is my town.”

Well-reasoned, restrained, and deliberate.

Not the stereotype that Ed Schultz was looking for.

“I agree with Ed when he says there is a crisis when it comes to the treatment of mental illness in this country”

And yet the shrinks of this nation are more concerned with endorsing self-destructive.

Interesting interview.
“Big Ed” (is that sexual reference?) came off as rational. Joe Zamudio came off a a real hero and the kind of kid I would want as my own.
MSNBC huh?

“I agree with Ed when he says there is a crisis when it comes to the treatment of mental illness in this country”

The fact that Ed himself is not in a mental institution speaks volumes.

Well, it needs to be said: ‘The system did not work, probably because of liberal idiots like the Sehriff in that town.’ Loughner, as a mental patient, should not have been allowed to legally purchase the fire arm he used. That says nothing about the ease with which he could probably have acquired a weapon illegally, but it is glaring indictment of the foolish hoops the system has that don’t work to accomplish what the fantasy fool democrat think they’re accomplishing. Like the young man said, it doesn’t matter what laws you write, there are already enough guns ‘out there’ that someone attempting to get one can and will, so why restrict the legal acquisiton by responsible citizens? The solution is not more restrictions like these that didn’t work. The solution is to allow more ready access to responsible citizenry like the young man who school the windbag Schultz.

It would have saved the taxpayers a lot of money if someone had blown this punk away instead of holding him down.

Protecting the civil liberties of those who are not capable of understanding they even have them. Yet, they do not stand up for the unborn. Terribly hypocritical.
