This has the latest Updates from what is now obviously the greatest natural disaster in Australia's history as the third largest city in Australia is gradually going under in this massive flood. The CBD is a ghost city, and so far nearly 140,000 consumers have had their electricity turned off. There's been rushes on now empty supermarkets. We have been told that the worse is still to come as king tides on Thursday will raise the level even higher. This is a disaster of astronomical proportions. I have links to local and national media with video, related stories, and image galleries.

Im in Australia, but far from the floods.

It’s hit people pretty hard up north.

Our prayers be with them.

A friend's parents appear to lost their home to these floods.

Prayers and well-wishes for those affected!

For reference, historic floods in Australia: http://www.ga.gov.au/hazards/flood/flood-basics/historic.html

It is no coincidence that a lot of these floods occur during La Nina, depicted with blue numbers here: http://www.cpc.noaa.gov/products/analysis_monitoring/ensostuff/ensoyears.shtml

"There's been rushes on now empty supermarkets."

Here in the States, you're a crazy survivalist nut if you keep a few weeks worth of food in the pantry. /s.

I’ve not been able to find any news on the Reef and the off-shore resort islands. I imagine that they are being hurt economically because Brisbane is their gateway, but have there been any effects from fresh water/silt, etc running out to sea or any effect on the undersea infrastructure, such as power/communication cables?
