Huntsman, a popular Republican governor of Utah from 2004 to 2009, seemed like a rising star in GOP politics until Obama sent him packing for Beijing. On Jan. 1, Huntsman renewed speculation about a White House run when he pointedly refused to rule out a last campaign. “You know, I’m really focused on what we’re doing in our current position,” he told Newsweek. “But we won’t do this forever, and I think we may have one final run left in our bones.”

I’m suspicious of anyone who has sat quiet the last two years and avoided the fray.
And that includes some of the other wannabes.
If you were AWOL during the fight of the century, don’t show up expecting to get promoted now.
Beyond that, he’ll have to answer the same questions as everyone else. Where do you stand on the border. Where do you stand on government-run economies. Where do you stand on national sovereignty. Where do you stand on constitutionalism and original intent. What is the evidence that you aren’t a sudden and recent convert for convenience.
And, again, if you’re such a leader, where have you been the last two years.

Perhaps he really does mean "we"; and you just have to guess who is included in that "we", and whether you would be comfortable letting that "we" assume dominion over the gears of the US government.

Huntsman supports civil unions

Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman revealed Tuesday that he supports civil unions for gay couples, baffling many political pundits and prompting some to speculate he is planning a presidential run in 2012.
“He could have some kind of aspirations for higher office,” said Quin Monson, a professor of political science who closely follows state politics. “But as a Republican I’m not sure that’s a wise position to take.”
While campaigning for governor in 2004, Huntsman said he supported an amendment to the state constitution banning gay marriage and civil unions.
But on Tuesday, Lisa Roskelley, spokeswoman for the governor, said he is in favor of state legislation that would extend additional rights to gays, adding that “he supports civil unions.”
According to a recent Salt Lake Tribune poll, 70 percent of Utahns oppose civil unions, which would give gay and transgender couples many of the same legal rights as married couples. With such a strong majority of the electorate disagreeing with Huntsman’s newly-revealed position, Monson said the news was unexpected.
“It’s quite surprising, not only because it runs counter to public opinion in this state but also because it seems quite unlikely that he’s going to change anything within the legislature in terms of civil unions,” Monson said.
Rove is an establishment monkey. Times have changed, Rove just hasn’t noticed. Time for conservative ardor.
