The tragic shooting in Tucson Saturday morning took the life of six people, among them John McCarthy Roll, the chief judge of the District of Arizona.
Judge Roll was 63. Click here for my and Nathan Koppels story on Roll in the WSJ; here for the NYTs article; here for the LATs; here for the Arizona Republics.
Roll was known within the Tucson legal community as a conservative and even-handed jurist who, in recent years had worked hard to increase funding for an overstretched Arizona federal bench.
He was a life-long Republican and I dont think he would have objected to hearing anyone call him conservative, said Ninth Circuit judge Michael Daly Hawkins, who had known Judge Roll for over 40 years. But he was always fair-minded and absolutely attentive to everyone who appeared in his courtroom.
Roll had attended the event Saturday in Tucson to thank Rep. Gabrielle Giffords for signing a letter to Judge Alex Kozinski, the chief judge of the Ninth Circuit, to help convince the court to declare his federal judicial district a judicial emergency due to the high number of immigration cases that were being heard in that district, according to Judge Hawkins. A judicial emergency would put certain new measures in place, such as allowing judges to delay a trial because there were not enough bodies to hear the cases.
Judge Roll was appointed to the federal bench by President George H.W. Bush in 1991, and had served as chief judge of the District of Arizona since 2006.

I noticed all of them, including FOX, did not mention too much about the judge other than he was dead. What that judge was ruling on will have an effect on all of our lives.
I think we would all be shocked if we knew all that has and is going on without our knowledge.
Why is that? Probably because the truth would be a hot potato and an indictment of the O admin.
Well we know the truth is never spread willingly by the media unless it 1) helps the Left or 2) hurts conservatives.
If you want to look at some truth how about the unprecedented attacks and hatred the media has ginned up against Palin. I have never seen anything like it in over 40 yrs of watching the antics of the Lying Class. Only the hatred of Reagan comes anywhere close to this. But with Reagan he had a long career in which to show enemies where he stood. Sarah is not in that class at all she is new.
Reports are it was an extended magazine. Folks have speculated that it might have been a 30-round magazine - which would line up with the numbers of killed and wounded (6 killed, 14 wounded).
It sounds like he was tackled and stopped as tried to put in another magazine after the first one ran out.
All that has been reported but knowing that the media is clueless when it comes to guns I don’t necessarily believe any of it. What does a 30 shot pistol look like?
Oklahoma City and the movie about assassinating GWB. What we see now is no different.
Think back about 4 years ago, even more. I have never in my life seen such awful hatred that was foisted on Bush everyday. They still do.
The left would have to be totally defeated because this crap will not end until they are defeated in every way.
The hatred directed at Bush was because he was actually doing something. Sarah has done nothing comparable. Bush was hatred because of his success in thwarting and defeating the left. Sarah has done nothing similar. It is instantaneous hate whipped up in minutes.
Lefties don’t need an excuse. They just hate us and all we are. Don’t tey to make sense out of what comes from people indoctrinated into a mental illness such as liberalism.
Hate and division is how they have always advanced themselves.
A “30-shot pistol looks like” ....hell. (IMHO).

Here’s an image. Its just a regular pistol with a longer magazine that sticks out the butt of the grip. Many pistols have a 15 to 16 round magazine already - so this would stick out the same length of the grip. Easy enough to buy on-line.
I missed those threads, sorry.
I don’t know precisely what the circumstances were but I do know that you generally can’t detain people against their will.
I’d have to read the details to form an opinion.
