Rockhampton Flood Crisis – Flood Peak Arrives – Life Goes On

I mentioned in one of the earlier Posts that the area in Queensland under water was around the combined size of Texas and Oklahoma. Now even bigger, add in New Mexico to that size. All 9 Rivers in the Fitroy River Basin have been in major flood, the first time in recorded history. Now 12 days since those heavy rains started across this wide State, the flood peak has finally reached Rockhampton where I live. It has already been at major levels now for those 12 days and has been gradually creeping up. The devastation from inundation is horrendous and covers large areas of this city of 75,000 people, now cut off totally. That major flood level is expected to stay for 2 days and then slowly decrease, remaining at major high levels for anything up to 14 days and longer as the huge volume of water still travels down the Fitzroy River and through the City. I have also included a slide show with the Post.

Tp get an idea of the scale of this thing, that's the equivalent of the entire Ohio watershed PLUS the Mississippi from Lake Itasca to St. Louis (but not counting the Missouri).
