Chili, slaw, mustard and onions on a burger. The best I had was the Sub Shop in Boone NC.
Boone also has a place that used Velveeta for the cheese called the Midtown Restaurant. That was really good. Both places are gone now.
Franklin, NC is a town in NC that, to me, has changed more than just about any town there. - We lived in Mt. Gilead, NC for a few months over 40 yrs. ago. It doesn’t seem possible that it’s been that long ago. I liked Mt. Gilead pretty well, but husband wanted to be elsewhere, so we left. The man we rented a lake cottage from there was later killed by some criminals who stopped him and robbed him after he stopped to help them. They feigned car trouble; and he was known to carry a huge roll of bills - not a good idea, of course.
