Read the Constitution!
President and Vice President are separate offices!
The electoral college which hasn't really done it Constitutional duty for a very very long time. It elects the president & vice president. (and is done separately!)It's only custom that they seemed cemented together at the hip. (Constitutionally the popular vote is a beauty contest! And long may it stay that way!) The electoral college could have said to the states, that's nice but we pick McCain & Biden for POTUS & VPOTUS. (Yes I think most states do have “faithless elector laws. I think it's still an open constitutional question as to whether these laws are really constitutionally valid!) Or the electors could have picked two we have never heard of!

Remember political parties do not exist to the US Constitution! Political parties have no constitutional standing, they are only instruments of political convenience.

You are partially correct , at one time the office of the President and vice- President were separate offices and ran separate campaigns. The “President did not choose the vice- president. If this was still true , we could of had biden running a separate campaign against Palin. We could of had obama for the president and Palin for the vice-President. The problem is obama did choose biden and if his campaign is voided, all actions he took during the campaign is also voided( his selection of biden). biden knew obama was not eligible to be President , supporting his election was a act of treason.
