I knew a liberal who was very anti-second amendment. She thought that even the police needed to be armed only when on duty. Then she came home to a burglary in progress. Fortunately, she was able to literally run screaming down her driveway until a neighbor saw her and called police. You can probably guess the rest of the story: yep, bought a gun. Some people are anti-death penalty till a family member is tortured and murdered and then change their minds. Some are pro-illegal immigration until one tries to rape their daughter or a family member is killed by an illegal DWI. Life experiences can change one’s perceptions very radically IMHO>
In the pre-Civil War South, a lot of Southerners were contemptuous of those who worked ‘in trade’ and were skilled laborers. After the Civil War, after losing everything, a lot of Southerners discovered the importance of learning how to survive through hard work and those who didn’t, starved to death.
It’s a matter of facing the experiences of others who share differing beliefs and the results of your actions. Liberals are usually ignorant of the consequences of their actions because someone else is always paying for them.
