The top ten academic fiascoes are those theories that actually were tried outside the Ivory Tower. Within it, they are still wildly successful.

1. Obamacare

2. Clinton Care

3. Medicare

4. Medicaid

5. Health care as we know it

6. Arms control

7. Gun control

8. The Great Society

9. The New Deal

10. Social Security

I remember in the late 70's when I was a Social Worker in public welfare, I went to a convention in DC and at dinner sat next to the professor who convinced HEW to split the social work functions of eligibility determination and providing services.

After 2 years of implementation he admitted to me that it failed, but it never was changed back.

“10. Social Security”

Nonsense. Social Security has been greatly successful in paying for most everything else the federal government does.

Energy Dept whose raison d’etre when set uph was to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. And reduce high prices.

Education Department which spends billions on theories while basic education scores and values tumble year after year for most public school students.
