"Hey boss, I know you said to write a hit piece about Caribou Barbie's new book, but it's sellin' like hotcakes at a lumberjack convention!" "Kid, haven't I taught you nuthin' yet?" "You gotta use the old 'sources say' routine to make it look like dat broad ain't doin' so well and da bloom is off da rose." "Now get back to your desk and knock me out a short piece dat I can put a negative headline to, 'cause you know 7 outta 10 people just scan da headlines and don't even read da stories."

“Only #2 on the NYT list”?

That’ll show HER, by golly!

I’m amazed that the NYT even allows conservative books to be referenced by the list. For years, they tried their damndest to ignore conservative titles by refusing to review or discuss them. They should go whole hog and exclude them from the list.

Naturally this article fails to point out that the number 1 Best Seller is “Decision Points” by President Bush.

The number 3 Best Seller is “AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MARK TWAIN”, VOL. 1, by Mark Twain

Reminds me of old Cold War joke.

JFK and Khrushchev have a foot race. JFK beats Khrushchev.

Pravda headline announces, “Khrushchev comes in second. JFK places in bottom two.”

I don't recall the same scrutiny over Pelosi, the most powerful woman in the world, selling no books at all.

From Hotair at the time:

" The most powerful woman in the history of American politics is suffering a humiliating defeat at the nation’s bookstores, sales figures show. In her first week at market, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi sold just 2,737 copies of her book KNOW YOUR POWER, according to NIELSEN BOOKSCAN. The DOUBLEDAY release was launched with a full media push, featuring high profile interviews on TODAYTHEVIEWTHISWEEK…"

“The speaker was pre-occupied with house business last week,” a source close to Pelosi explained Thursday morning. “She has now turned her focus to promoting this extraordinary book… doing local signings and speeches. I think we’ll see an uptick.”

Maybe it is because the press isn't falling all over themselves to promote America by Heart in they way they did for Dreams From My Father, The Audacity of Hope or a number of other books...

Looks like George Bush is on top. Pretty stiff competition for Sarah. Today, however she’s #5. Glenn Beck “Broke” #8.
Haven’t gotten mine yet, but enjoying the Sarah Palin’s Alaska. It’s hilarious. I wonder if liberals will eat halibut now that they know they clubbed’em! LOL

(publisher) owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp ... also ... a Fox News commentator

This is more of the media drumbeat that she is a beneficiary of Rupert Murdoch's largesse.

Going Rogue went on to sell more than 2.66 million copies. Almost half a million more than they give her credit for. And she’s probably over 2.7 million now. They always quote the 2.2 million, just as they quote the bogus abc news/wash post poll of adults from Feb. ‘10 rather than the Sept. ‘10 rasmussen poll of likely voters showing she has a 49-50 approval with independents, meaning if she has that she’s more than electable.

Palin's first book, "Going Rogue," was released one year ago and became the second-fastest selling political book in history. It went into a second printing three days after its release and went on to sell 2.2 million hardcover copies.

"America by Heart" (subtitled "Reflections on Family, Faith and Flag") had an initial press run of 1 million copies, suggesting its publisher, HarperCollins, didn't expect it to repeat the success of "Rogue," the report said.

Hmmm, didn't the first book have an initial press run of about 1 million copies?

If so, was it because the publisher didn't expect it to sell 2.2 million copies?

Or was it because an initial run of 1 million copies was a prudent number for the publisher to have picked -- in both cases?

I bought the kindle version as it came out and plan to buy 5 hard copies to give as Christmas presents. I may get a hard copy for myself, too, just to have it on the bookshelf. The kindle is nice to read but the quality of the pictures isn’t so nice.
