In the real world, an employee fired for insubordination, incompetence and stealing from the company is directed to clean out his desk and leave the premises forthwith under the watchful eye of a security guard. The disgruntled former employee is ordered never to return with or without a gun.
In Washington, not only do we let fired representatives hang around, we actually allow them to keep running the country. And like disgruntled former employees are wont to do, the current congress is vandalizing the nation.
The whole lame duck session was never a particularly great idea. Common sense dictates that once the voters have thrown someone out of office, its best not to keep the rejected politician in a position of power. At one time, there was at least some rational basis for a lame duck session. It allowed time for newly elected legislators to hitch up their stage coaches and trek to DC. Nearly all of our current crop of elected officials seem to have unlimited access to private jets, making the 20th Amendment not only dangerous but obsolete.
Nobody but the American people gives bad employees three months to clear out their desks and go home.
The current crop of lame ducks is more menacing than most. A lot of Democrats got pulverized in the November mid terms. And the current crop of Democrats are not exactly an emotionally stable lot. Does anyone really want Alan Grayson having access to anything important? Hence, the economy continues unabated in its death spiral while our demented ducks quack about amnesty and DADT. They cant bother themselves to stop a massive tax hike on those few people who still have jobs and their employers.
If ever a case was to be made to abolish the lame duck session, this congress is it. Like all emotionally disturbed ex employees, congress members need to be escorted to the exits, at gun point if necessary, and never allowed to return.
