Washington Passes Secret Energy Tax
Canada Free Press ^ | 12-6-2010 | Tom Deweese

ALERT: It looks like the climate bill debate has already been decided by Washington and voters didn’t even have a chance to say “NO!” A staggering $65 billion dollars has been transferred from the private sector to fund the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). RGGI is government created entity that is choking companies in the northeast with huge tax increases in the name of the environment. Our tax dollars are funding this secret climate initiative. Soon RGGI will expand to every state and stick you with astronomical energy prices.

snip

Washington can not be allowed to secretly tax energy under the guise of climate change!

The Beltway sense of entitlement is mind boggling. While everyday Americans struggle to pay the bills and live through the stress of the Recession, RGGI is rolling in the dough. RGGI Chief, Jonathan Schrag is living a life most of us could only dream of. In June, Schrag and his wife Kristen purchased a $2.2 million dollar loft in Manhattan. Schrag’s posh condo is 2,000 square feet and has three bedrooms and two bathrooms with a nice view of the Manhattan skyline. Schrag’s luxurious residence is only a five block walk to the RGGI headquarters. I guess he didn’t want to risk creating a carbon foot print by driving to work.

Washington Passes Secret Energy Tax

The RGGI, although highly stupid, is a state-level compact, and has been around for some time.

We seem to have a lot of blog posts on FR lately that struggle with the underlying facts.

Could we have a reference better than RGGI or the Canadian Free Press?

Is it a bill or an amendment to a bill?

It's neither. RGGI is an idiotic state-level compact of ten Northeast states that has been around for at least a couple of years.

Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative

RGGI, Inc. Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, Inc. (RGGI, Inc.) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation created to support development and implementation of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). RGGI is a cooperative effort among ten states – Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont – to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The US Congress WILL MAKE $$$$$ from this.

That is the plan. Follow the $$$$ (and the lawyers
whose spouses are in MSM.

“Fannie Mae Chief Executive Officer Franklin Raines, two of his top underlings and select
individuals in the "green" movement were inventing a patented system to trade residential carbon credits.
Patent No. 6904336 was approved by the U.S. Patent and Trade Office on Nov. 7, 2006 --
the day after Democrats took control of Congress. Former Sen. John Sununu, R-N.H.,
criticized the award at the time, pointing out that it had "nothing to do with Fannie Mae's charter, nothing to do with making mortgages more affordable."

"It wasn't about mortgages. It was about greenbacks. The patent, which Fannie Mae confirmed it still owns with Cantor Fitzgerald subsidiary CO2e.com, gives the mortgage giant a lock on the fledgling carbon trading market, thus also giving it a major financial stake in the success of cap-and-trade legislation."

Since >95% of “greenhouse gases” are comprised of WATER, we should be able to gum up any proposed enactment by insisting the focus be on controlling water evaporation.
This is an ideal mechanism to illustrate the folly of attempting to control CO2 emissions.

It is also something Romney was proudly a part of in MA until he cranked up his presidential campaign in 2006—adding to the list of issues on which he was known to have flipped and flopped:

I did some research on the people who are skimming money off running this “RGGI”

Offices in Manhattan. Jobs for their friends available for “analysts” and “program managers”

rich white liberals with college degress in “environmental studies”, yada yada yada

all grads of the finest private schools, all such wonderful high achieving Algor-hugging concerned citizens of the world

You get the picture. Nice to know I’m living in sweaters and sweatshirts in my house and paying money on my BGE bill every month to fund their luxurious scam to “save the earth” from selfish energy hogs like me

No shortage of idiocy with RGGI - but it also isn’t a current federal legislative issue as implied by this blog post, so calling Congresscritters and Senators is a waste of time.

I just returned from a trip to Australia, where they passed a carbon offset tax about a year ago.

Things that did not involve the use of power, like museum tickets, clothing and car rentals, cost roughly the same as here in the US. However, anything that involved the use of electrical energy or gasoline was 200-300% more expensive. Meals were roughly double to triple what they are here, a night in a hotel was roughly double the American price, and the equivalent of a gallon of gas was about $6. The difference was easy to calculate because the Australian/American dollar ratio was almost 1/1.

Did PA recently join? Apparently PECO’s rates are going up 30 percent.

My post 5 is current from RGGI’s website, and PA is not on it. PECO is more than capable of screwing over ratepayers without governmental assistance.
