From Sarah Palin's Alaska, hunting with her dad they come up on a large caribou, it takes a few shots but Sarah brings it down...

...right now, I shouldn’t be allowed above three steps or come within anything sharper than a piece of string
I find that double espresso with Hershey’s syrup and orange juice in the blender works well.
In Canada we appreciate all of God’s creatures....right next to the mashed potatoes.
I never knew they had wild boars (pigs) in Alaska.
I have a little less charity. It’s her job to sight her gun before the trip, not her dad’s. With her schedule, I can understand, but it’s her gun, her job. Her dad may use another eye, or have a different perspective. The shooter is responsible, IMHO.
Didn’t Sarah’s dad fall ON his gun when he fell? surely that would have knocked the sights off (and I was surprised to see him using the gun as a walking stick - loaded or not, it’s a bad habit). Was very glad to see he did not hurt himself when he fell, could have been nasty.
What blew me away was the caribou didn’t seem to know the sound of a gunshot. Did that cow think the five rounds whizzing over her head and past her ears were giant mosquitoes? Guess there’s not many hunters out where Sarah went!
I have not seen the episode yet.
From my understanding she first used her Dad’s rifle. Another FR post made the comment that the dad was using the rifle as a “helper” while walking (not a good idea). He fell, and that may have knocked the scope out of whack.
It would seem that prudence would dictate that if you are hunting, you have your own rifle that you are familiar with. Not sure why Sarah did not have, or was not using, her own rifle.
Although it sounds like given a decent rifle, she got it on the “first” shot. (Which perhaps negates my thought that one should have their own, familiar rifle...)
The first rifle didn’t kick so must have had soft loads that weren’t accurate...
Human with a gun ...animal standing around minding its own business ...gets plugged ...great accomplishment not ...
“I never knew they had wild boars (pigs) in Alaska.”
Lisa Murksowski?
Didn’t you WATCH the show...the problem was with her Dad’s sight....when she changed rifles she took it down with one shot.
Yeah, he took a tumble that would have killed a liberal. I bet he took it a bit easy for a few days once he got home...
I like the comments at the site. Those wondering if she’s ever shot before because she asks if a particular rifle “kicks” have obviously never fired more than one weapon.
fish - swimming around gets yanked and slapped onto a ball of rice......great accomplishment for the haute crowd....not
I swear its absolutely impossible to picture in any way shape, form, size or position of Obama doing even a fraction of what Sarah Palin can do.
Heck I have lived in Alaska since 1992 and even I have not been on a Caribou hunt, I have hunted moose but they are easy.
The rifle Sarahs father gave her I believe was a “varmint” rifle, my guess is that it was something like a .243 or a .270 though it may have been the 7mm magnum that was actually mentioned by her father, that is my lightest caliber I would carry in the bush, the one she borrowed looked like either a .300 or a .338 by the size of the cartridges.
The best thing to carry is the laser in a cartridge for your caliber and something like a paper plate with a reflective sticker on it, Cabelas sells them. Rifle scopes have to have some rock solid mounts on them when you are hauling them by plane, 4 wheeler and such. To get the best scope mounts I shop through the Brownells catalog and my choices are usually Warne or Talleys though I do use some Leupold Quick Release’s on my Winchester 70 .375H&H. If in doubt about the scope it comes off in a second and I still have my safari ramp sights.
The first rifle (hard to tell from the video) looked like a Remington 700. The second looked like a sythetic stocked Savage (from the position of the safety). Anybody get a better look? Anybody know the calibers?
It is obvious she knows how to shoot. 4 shots consistantly off (more than likely high). First shot with the second gun - clean hit.
It is correct that the zero should have been verified, but in the final anlaysis, a clean hit. Sarah’s Dad SHOULD have checked it, but I’ve made MUCH worse mistakes.
Sarah’s awesome.
