They fear and smear her because, to put it simply, she is not Illuminati. They can't buy her or control her. What they've dredged up out of her closet is totally weak. If she gets in, they won't be able to blackmail her.

And, most importantly, when they block President Palin from helping the average American, she will go on TV and "tattle" and name the names. They would have no way to shut her up when she speaks the simple and almost childlike Truth directly to the People.
