Give government power and you will pay a price. I am assuming this is without a trial? Was it FCC administrative action?

Can anyone tell me what "threat to the homeland security" these sites present: sites that help Internet users download copyrighted music, as well as sites that sell bootleg goods, such as fake designer handbags.

Conservative info sites next in the crosshairs.

You are talking about the article at this link?

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2633670/posts";

Curious myself if this isn’t because of the major Democrat donors that have those copyrights, or represent those copyrighted materials.

I see stuff like this, and I can’t help but think some sneaky deal is going on, because that is usually what is happening in our government, especially our Leftist government anymore.

Your link didn't work for me....this is from The Hill.

From Drudge

The sites are replaced with a note from the government: "This domain named has been seized by ICE, Homeland Security Investigations."

For instance, 2009jersey.com, 51607.com, and amoyhy.com have each been seized.

One of the site owners told TorrentFreak that his site was shut down without any notice or warning.

The effort come as Congress considers the Combatting Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA). Critics, including Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) say it is too heavy-handed. He has vowed to put a formal hold on the bill.

This more about protecting economic interests than anything else. Those sites sell boot-legged and falsely labeled, knock-off designer stuff. The owners of the labels and copyrights have paid good money to members of Congress to ensure that anything threatening their profits gets nipped in the bud as a first government priority. Having watched all this move through government at different levels and branches for a decade, I am not going to panic yet. Oh, and Customs is a responsibility of DHS, as, I believe, it should be.

This is so funny. I suspect most of these posters on this article are of the liberal persuasion, since they are more than likely a younger crowd. This is so eyeopening:

“by trustnoone
How can they keep doing stuff like this, all I see is sites getting taken down left right and center, and for what. Most of the time none of them are doing anything illegal, just bringing back search pages. Yet some how they get taken down an not only that SUED!!! and they actually LOSE!!

I don’t even see how this is legally possible, except the legal system has completely failed us, and companies are getting way too much authority for just a company, like the RIAA and many other ones.

I seriously have no faith in humanity anymore”

And then there is this, heavily laden with sarcasm:

“Let me remind my fellow Americans that Nazi Germany’s Stasi was NOT in fact called “The Department of Homeland Security”. It was called “The Ministry of State Security”, so let’s please not confuse them.

Also note that America is “The Land of The Free”, while Nazi Germany was “The Fatherland”. Hitler was killing Jews, and Muslim terrorist scum are not Jews, so America is clearly different.

Let no-one even think we are living in a fascist state of any sort. This is obviously a Democracy — that’s why we have congress to always look out for our interests!

Besides, the Germans invaded Poland. Who would the US bother to invade? Mexico? Canada? Iraq is way too far from home to count! Did Hitler have nukes? No! Did Hitler censor the internet? No! Therefore, there is simply no comparison!

So, everything is fine. There’s nothing to worry about. Just trust in God, O Land of The Free and Home of The Brave! We’re going to be just fine.

They are just protecting kids from bootleg copies of Porkies Revenge.

Think of the children! Just not the wide-open borders.

They are too big and too mainstream to mess with. It will be the little sites, the ones that feed information and stories to Rush, Hannity and others.

COICA is not even an enforceable law yet, since it was just passed by congress and the POTUS has not signed it. And from what I have read, the bill the way it was written cannot stand with a Supreme Court challenge. So what we have here is the Democrats version of Nazi Crystal Night using the closest thing that the USA has to the Gestapo (ICE).

Not sure why you posted that to me but it seems it doesn't matter that COICA hasn't passed, they're seizing domain names and as far as I can tell, without due process.

Sharpton and I'm off my Rockerfeller are out there calling for censoring Rush and other conservative talkers and news outlets, this doesn't seem like a coincidence to me.

Looks to me like the bamster doesn't think he needs no steenking Constitution or Congress, he has his Tsars and other willing accompilices to carry out his plans.

Just my $.02, would love to be wrong.

re: way it was written cannot stand with a Supreme Court challenge

It’s becoming all too frequent for jurisdictions to pass laws they know full well will not stand court scrutiny. They do it in hopes no one with the resources to contest it will do so. Meantime they enjoy the benefits of the law and even when it is overturned there’s no penalty for their wanton disregard of the Constitution. And there’s always the chance the courts will unexpectedly come down on the side of a case where the foregone conclusion was it could make muster. Think McCain-Feingold!

Unless we find a way, and more importantly the will and fortitude, to reign in government at every level from top to bottom we are seeing the closing act of the magnificent experiment that was America.
