Fascinating how history just keeps repeating itself...

"White House political strategists have concluded—regretfully—that Ronald Reagan is fading and will have little chance of winning the Republican presidential nomination in 1980. Why the regrets? Because Carter's aides are convinced that the conservative, 68-year-old former California governor is an easy target. (April 2, 1979)"

I guess Mr. Cook hasn’t seen these numbers. Oh by the way Gallup had similar numbers as well.

I guess they never saw these numbers from Rasmussen.
Whose views are closer to your own? Palin/Obama

Overall: 52/40

Male: 55/37
Female: 48/43
White: 58/35
Black: 5/87
GOP: 84/9
DEM: 14/81
INDY: 59/27
Conservative: 80/12
Moderate: 28/61
Liberal: 14/85

Or these:

“.....76% of Republicans and 52% of unaffiliated voters now hold a favorable opinion of Palin.”

“...Unaffiliated voters by a 41% to 36% margin see Palin as good for the GOP.”
