Thats what Jonathan Alter argued during our panel on MSNBCs Dylan Ratigan Show today.
Personally, I think Barbara Bushs Palin-bashing (assuming saying she hopes Palin stays in Alaska qualifies as bashing) has more to do with her moderate political philosophy than it does with any strategy for helping elect her son.
Having said that, I am starting to hear rumors that Jeb is telling potential prominent supporters to keep their powder dry, meaning not to endorse or support any 2012 candidates until they check back with him.
There is no doubt that Jeb Bush is highly qualified, and if his name were Jeb Smith, he would be the 2012 front-runner today.
In any event, this is good, fun speculation. You can watch the video here

Several weeks ago our local paper ran a story about Jeb's interest in running. The online comments posted for the story were at least 90% negative towards Jeb.
Personally, I would never vote for a Bushie again -- no matter who the alternative would be.
You got it re: Jeb.
No one other than Palin has been calling out this Marxist administration. Some have tried in their meek way of offering alternatives, but I have not seen concerted go to battle, hand to hand combat against this communist onslaught from the so-called male front-runners from the GOP. WHERE THE HECK ARE THEY? WHERE ARE OUR MEN? I only see conservative WOMEN out there fighting the fight... and yes, fighting GOP RINOs along the way as well. Not enough the GOP men cannot defend what is right, they attack the women who are trying to hold together our country, our ideals, our Constitution.
He’d probably bring our 51st state, just south of the border. (No thanks, Jeb!)
Weird, isn't it. You're right. There are precious few actually calling out the marxists.
Most of the men have been pretty timid, or completely AWOL.
Jim DeMint is the only guy I see really doing battle. Its pretty much been him, and Palin, and Bachmann. The others are too busy polishing their position papers and trying to calculate and focus-group what their principles ought to be.
That, and they are waiting as long as possible before taking an actual position on anything in case the wind suddenly shifts again and they have to change opinions again on the fly.
Jeb would win Florida and Texas today without campaigning. I am not pushing him and I don't think he'll get the nomination, but to suggest that he couldn't beat Barack Obama in 2012 in a on-on-one matchup is strange, especially considering Obama's disapproval ratings.
“...what would Bush III bring? Probably the antichrist himself if the pattern continues”
LOL! You are certainly right, the results are getting worse.
NO JEB BUSH
NO MITT ROMNEY
NO MIKE HUCKABEE
I’m also opposed to Palin, her negatives are too high.
We need a fresh face.
Mike Pence for President!
Two years out, that is an absurd and utterly meaningless assertion. It can do nothing but harm to the Tea Party movement.
Please stop buying into the lamestream media's propaganda...
You can say the same about virtually anyone, including Joe the Plumber.
No more RINOs, please.
I was referring to the Primary
