"Barbara Bush Should Shut Up," says Dan Riehl. Oh no. Not our Bar. Painful to acknowledge, but after a lifetime of embracing the former first lady's persona of outspoken authenticity, we have to admit she no longer speaks to us. See below for details. Above, GHWB and Barbara in a Larry King interview that will air Monday.

How does posting an article that didn't like what Babs said qualify in that way? You must have some kind of axe to grind just to post that, so what is it?
Do you think Babs was classy, conservative uniting, and right to suggest Sarah Palin stay in Alaska?
Do you not think that was a snarky comment from someone who should be criticizing Obama and the democrat insanity instead of attacking one of the main proponents of Reagan conservatism?
Well, that makes two of us. I think she could use a voice coach and it would help a lot.
So you're defending Babs Bush divisive and tawdry comment because you don't like her voice?
Where here did I defend what Barbara Bush said?
That's an early post to me concerning the article about BB's comment. It sounds like a pretty robust objection and tacit agreement that Babs was okay to diss her to me.
If that's not so, then perhaps you should spell out if you disagree with Babs or not.
The Bushes are certainly not conservative. I think that was established more than a decade ago. I don't know why everyone is so surprised. Barbara Bush the granddaughter came out for Obamacare. In case anyone doesn't know put your ear to the computer..THE BUSHES ARE NOT CONSERVATIVE.
Off with your head. You mentioned Sarah's voice problem.
jk
Seriously, if Barbara had criticized Sarah's voice I would bet most people here wouldn't have a problem with that.
But that's not what Barb said.
Barb told LK, on CNN, in enemy territory, that Sarah should go back to Alaska.
Nobody down here in the lower 48, is more in Obama's face than Sarah.
Yet, Barbara tells Sarah to go flippin home.
Inexcusable.
OF COURSE I don’t agree with her. Sarah Palin has a huge place on the political stage. But I don’t see why everyone is so surprised she said this.
wow, you are late to the party...see post #140. I’m not going through this again.
Because he wanted to win against the latter while the fix was already in against the former. That is why they got so mad at Palin when she "went rogue" and started actually campaigning to win.
I'm still trying to understand your first comment to me, and why you would say that so strongly. Can you explain it a bit please?
So, let me get this straight..the new policy of FR is to completely trash anyone who utters a harsh word about Sarah Palin, right?
What does that have to do with what I asked?
Why in the hell do you care that somebody's trashing non-conservatives on Free Republic?
Why are you people so freaking high strung? I’m just asking why you are surprised! Man, you guys need to chill out. I thought Conservatives are supposed to be happy. I am. Why aren’t you?
No...you aren't just asking why anyone is surprised; you're also asking, in sardonic and ironic tone, whether the new policy of FR is to "completely trash anyone who utters a harsh word about Sarah Palin, right?"
This is a far cry from "just asking why you are so surprised."
If you're going to be sarcastic, grow thicker skin and tell the truth.
I’m not the one with the thin skin. Obviously from what I’ve been thrown here and other threads. I welcome honest debate. I just wonder why you guys can’t take any negative comment about Sarah Palin. She laughs it off..why don’t you? It’s an odd phenomenon where people here feel they need to be protective of her. She’s doing very well on her own! There are valid criticisms of her. Of course this Bush thing was uncalled for. But what do you expect? Her son, Jed, may be running against her. But you guys better get used to it...if she runs...and that’s a big if....it’s going to be nonstop.
I’m more concerned about her media blitz and putting her children out there after saying they are off limits. I think that’s a valid criticism. What say you?
I've seen you "debate" and I've read what you have to say about Sarah Palin. I think you're insincere and disingenuous when it comes to her and her family. You're one of the more transparent anti-Palin posters around here. Your take on her media blitz and the notion that she is "putting her children out there after saying they are off-limits" is particularly telling.
Furthermore, I think you're deranged about her: you mistakenly view Sarah's supporters as cultists; you refuse to acknowledge that it's possible for Sarah's children to behave improperly independently of excellent parenting, a dynamic experienced by legions of families worldwide...and if you look at the Bushes themselves, you'll see that Barb and GHW's firstborn prodigal was elected president; and you have stated here that all of Sarah's supporters at Free Republic are hypocrites:
The lengths you guys go to protect this woman is unbelievable. If this were a story about the teenage daughter of a liberal you would be all over that parent. Hypocrites, all.
You have accused her supporters of having crushes on her; you have accused them of idol-worship; it "pisses you off" that Bristol has been "elevated" on Dancing With The Stars. Don't deny it Hildy...it's in the record, archived in all its hardheaded glory.
When it comes to Palin, you're as deranged as it gets...pity you don't know it. If I were to read between the lines (and I won't) I would come to the conclusion that her evangelical Christianity has short-circuited your ability to think cogently about the woman.
It happens, you know. Look at the Democrat Party for proof.
And that is why families should NOT do reality TV. It NEVER has a happy ending. From the first reality show back in the 1970's...on PBS...The Loud family, to right now, the outcomes are almost always the same..broken homes and broken hearts. Why anyone would allow cameras into their homes is beyond me.
That being said, after arguing that people should leave her kids alone, Palin puts them on TV. I don't understand why. It can only lead to bad stuff...like what's happening now. YOu'd think, after the last two years, the kids would have been educated as to how to deal with people saying negative things about their mother and family. But apparently not. Plus, I don't know about you guys, but that Piper didn't look like she was so happy in the show I saw, and I thought it was weird when she called her mother, SARAH. Again, these are things we shouldn't have to know and I don't care WHAT anyone here says...all of this is a reflection of Sarah and her choices and decisions.
