I get your point and as conservatives we share the same goals. Ideally we would like that, but how do you get there from here?
Step one - privatization, that gets rid of the TSA and wounds it for a generation, hopefully.
(the persistence of bad ideas is incredible and we live in a world of lost knowledge/wisdom)
Step two - privatize airports.
They should be owned like condos with each gate being owned by bidders just like seats on an exchange or at a condo and without limitation.
The streets, ticketing gates, etc. would be treated as common areas and fees would be charged against each gate ownership.
Governments should own/run as little as possible
Step one: Indemnify all airline security and personnel from any and all lawsuits resulting from profiling, sexism, etc. They're a private company, if you don't like how they treat you, you move on to the next. The caveat is that airlines become financially responsible for any terrorist act that happens on their property or in their planes or using their property, within the security cordon.
Step two: Disband the TSA, put all their toys up for auction, with a week's notice that they're being fired. Airlines have a week to set up and organize basic security for their passengers within that week.
As an aside, we all really know what's going to happen next. The 'airline style' security arrangements will start appearing at public buildings, court houses, etc, and there will be nothing that can be done to stop it, as they have the precedent of acceptance at airports. At some point it will no longer be optional to use these devices, as you'll need something from DMV, maybe have to pay a parking ticket, etc. These searches can't become acceptable, as they are beyond any doubt unreasonable searches, and a policy of unreasonable seizures of personal property at checkpoints for arbitrary and ever changing TSA rules as to what is, and what isn't, allowed on an aircraft. And the same thing will happen for our public buildings, arenas, etc.
