President Obama will be returning to Washington this afternoon after fleeing the country with Republicans sitting pretty with historic gains on election day, and with the Democratic Party in turmoil. Obama might regret returning to America after his overseas trip resulted in failure.
With the people demanding low taxes via voting booths and opinion polls, the President's Fiscal Responsibility Commission came out against tax hikes in any income bracket. One of their tax plans even involves lowering the income tax level further. The lame duck session of Congress is just one day away; it's make or break time for Obama.
Both the incoming Speaker John Boehner and the current Minority Leader Mitch McConnell are both committed to extending the Bush tax cuts for all Americans, while the current Speaker Nancy Pelosi is steadfast against it. This sets the stage for a lame duck battle that will one day be discussed in the history books, and that will likely rest on the shoulders of the "blue dog Democrats."
Democrats voted out of office have no reason to support those who caused their defeat, and the remaining few Democrats who actually have fiscal sense, such as Heath Shuler, have absolutely no reason to stand against the public. In short, the bipartisan push is for all tax levels to remain the same for everyone - rich or poor.
