Whats with all the recent inappropriate Nazi comparisons? On Tuesday, liberal radio host Mike Malloy likened George W. Bush to Hitler. Now, Glenn Beck has drawn the ire of the Anti-Defamation League by claiming that Jewish billionaire George Soros played a role in the Holocaust.
On his radio show yesterday, Beck gave his listeners a history lesson about Soros, who was born György Schwartz in Hungary in 1930. According to Beck, Soross father is a guy who spoke Esperanza fluentlyEsperanza was developed in the 1880s as the worlds first international language. (Hes mistaken about the name of that language; its Esperanto, not Esperanza, which is Spanish for hope.)
Beck implied that there was something sinister about Esperanza: It was the language of peace, like the U.N. is the house of peace. And it was developed so that everyone could speak the same language, and no one would have to come by their old, tribal language, he said sarcastically. Wed all have a new language. He goes on to say that the Soviets, the Chinese, and Hitler himself all considered embracing Esperanto before discarding it upon finding that its proponents were dangerous. Theyre dangerous to everyone. Thats right: even Hitler didnt want to mess with the guys who spoke a made-up auxiliary language.

He even does all this today, in his apartment.
Beck didn’t accuse him of anything. His early history is well known. Beck repeated again and again that he didn’t and couldn’t judge him for what he did as a fourteen year old to survive, or what his family did to keep him alive.
So the premise of the article is false. Which means the writer is dishonest from word one. I’m getting used to it. I’m surprised anymore when writers are actually honest.
Its always funny to listen to attacks on Beck, when he mostly just plays the video, and lets people say what they have to say in their own words. He doesn’t say these things about people; they do. Beck doesn’t say who and what Soros is, he lets Soros speak for himself.
I'd be careful of the Media Matters crap spread around. Will the idiots at the Anti Defamation League parrot the George Soros line that Beck is an anti-Semite?
As Glen said, let the two of the walk in Jerusalem and see who gets the more friendly reception.
I think they can revoke his citizenship.
I’m no fan of Soros. In fact, I can’t think of one redeeming thing about him.
But Soros saw, and experienced, things as a child - as a child! - that Beck could not imagine in his worst nightmares.
Beck said he cannot judge Soros for that part of his life, but that’s being disingenuous. By presenting the facts, Beck is accusing. But in this case I believe that Beck is not qualified prosecute, or to sit on the jury.
This is not the case of a 14-year-old who was an accessory to a murder. This is the case of a 14-year-old thrown into a continuous hell-on-earth.
The nearest analogy I can think of, and it’s very imperfect, is that of a combat infantryman in a brutal, drawn-out battle. His actions should really only by judged by others who have been in such a combat.
There is plenty wrong with Soros, as others have said. Attack him on that. Leave the unguided, confused, and frightened 14-year-old be.
He got it right on his television broadcast.
If so, let it be done!
I don't know how you would tell Soros' biography and not mention that part of the story.
I think everyone who hears the story knows that they have to factor in the times, the circumstances, and the age of the kid himself.
We can factor those things in and I assume Beck can too. And you can too and no doubt do.
Search for Soros video clips. He stated this himself on 60 Minutes. Heck my tag used to be: “George Soros, you mean self-described Nazi collaborator George Soros?”
“Whats with all the recent inappropriate Nazi comparisons?”
Recent? Was this article written by Rip Van Winkle.
By the way, though the Nazi comparison has been overused to the point of absurdity, and is the crutch of lazy people, there is a false comparison here. Unlike Bush, Soros was actually around for the holocaust, and whether or not Beck is hyperbolizing (he almost undoubtedly is), Soros could have possibly had an actual role in it.
Good catch. You’re pretty sharp, there.
Actually, esperanto is very dangerous. Its goal was to obliterate all existing literature and all history and replace it with the new language.
“Is there such a thing as an un-admitted atheist?”
Yes.
It’s not the 14 year old who would see Americans go financially bust. But it is from that 14 year old who had certain life experiences, that we have this man today who has us in his sights. Just as he said himself that he ratted out Jews to deport them and take their stuff as a teen, he is trying to take America’s wealth and make us just another nation in the New World Order. He said himself that he is doing it for fun. Americans who go broke, lose their jobs and homes because of what he is doing will have no justice in his Open Society. Just don’t judge him. Hitler had a hard childhood too. Oh Well, sucks to be us.
I give Beck a lot of credit for having the stones to do what he has been doing since moving to FNC.
Name one person who has given the PRECISE coordinates of where the bear crapped in the buckwheat like Beck has been doing! For MY money, Beck is the Paul Revere of the Twenty-First Century!
If the “authorities” went after Soros the way they’ve gone after John Demjanjuk who was alleged to be “Ivan the Terrible”, we’d be rid of this global nuisance. He sided with the Nazis, against the Jews and never felt the least amount of remorse. In many ways, he’s still carrying Hitler’s torch today.
You do have a point there. Soros’s childhood helped shape Soros the man, so his childhood experiences are relevant and should not be off-bounds for discussion.
But Beck’s was not a Soros personality discussion. It was a criminal accusation. This is more than unfair. It makes Beck look a bit silly and diminishes his credibility.
What would you do, as a 14-year-old, if you were told to deliver deportation papers to neighbors? As an American, you might resist. but Soros the child did what any other eastern European CHILD would have done in those horrible times. He obeyed authority.
Notice that no children were tried at Nurenburg.
The Bar Mitzvah age is 13, not 12. Bat Mitzvahs are 12. I know it doesn’t change anything in your post; Soros was still over the age of maturity in the Jewish religion, after all, just wanted to point that fact out.
I had a few issues with what Beck said, in that I don’t think he included the full story of Soros and the deportation papers. When he received the papers from the Jewish Council, Soros took them to his father, who explained their meaning and told his son to warn the recipients that they were to be deported.
All of this forms such an ambiguous and complicated picture that it reminds me of JG Ballard’s experiences in _Empire of the Sun_.
