When King Ludwig III (”Mad Ludwig”)of Bavaria finally bankrupted his kingdom with his castle building program and massive support for the operas of Richard Wagner, the king’s inner circle had him declared insane and removed from the palace.
Ludwig’s body was later discovered in a nearby lake in three feet of water.
Ludwig was an excellent swimmer, btw.
