Uh no. Bill Clinton's slobbering all over the White House had a big hand in it too (cf, Clinton fatigue). Also, Gore's disasterous debate performance helped (cf, clown makeup and elitist sighing). Further, George Bush trounced McCain in the primaries even with so many Democrats crossing over to vote for him.
