I simply don’t believe that Americans in McDonald land can’t afford 10 bucks every 3 months.
No way they’re telling the truth
Sadly, all you have to do is follow some of the more casual conversations on FR to know that people do, indeed, spend more than that on fast food, bad newspapers, and worse magazines, just to name a few things. I guess it’s all about priorities. I’m thinking this upcoming election is going to be about priorities, too, and pretty soon we’ll know whether our country is a frivolous, lazy republic, or a free republic.
Well, I believe in capitalism and paying for something of value.
I would much rather “suffer” the indignity of seeing a few ads running down the side of FR (like every other website I frequent) than listening to the ubiquitous begging for handouts.
This business model is flawed. Mr. Robinson likes to brag about the millions of page views, etc...well that would be great information to present to potential advertisers, who would pay to have their product or service placed in front of all those eyeballs.
Drudge and Brietbart seem to be able to stay on line without constantly asking for donations. I love Free Republic and it is the way I start my day every morning...it has been my “homepage” for over ten years (even through the years I was banned for gripping about McCain winning the nomination)
People who enjoy this website without sending money to it are not advocates of welfare. This business model is very unusual in today’s marketplace. It operates almost s a church, passing the plate every three months.
I am donating today (admittedly a very small donation) because I do love this site, but these Freepathons are really tiresome...and I wish Mr. Robinson would find another way to fund this operation, using ingenuity and free market capitalist concepts rather than than begging his “customers” for “donations.”
If you have a product of value (you obviously do)you should be able to sell it with out problem. Sites that you have to pay a fee to view don’t work well in this new medium, but advertising seems to keep a lot of less popular sites afloat just fine.
Sorry for the long rant and I hope I don’t get banned (again) for expressing my views...I’m off to make my donation.
