Now I agree with you that the "poor" are often not really all that poor, and when they are it's generally their own fault, and that money given to them is often put to bad use, which is generally how they got to be poor in the first place.
But for those of us who give a rat's backside about Christianity, there's that verse in Ezekiel, and it won't go away.
The other 5% are a tiny minority who are poor because of THE BIG GOVERNMENT'S DECISIONS Made in place of our responsible decisions. The government never makes the right decision
That's how my friend became homeless. His family abused him, took away his inheritance and money and the government backed them up. He was forced to go on SSI and he only gets 500$ a month. He now lives in a filthy SRO in East LA.
The rest are homeless because of economic hardships brought about by socialism and the expensive welfare state in place of our Judeo Christian values. Ezekiel 16:49 puts it wonderfully.
