Calif. Gov Debate Overshadowed by 'Whore' Remark

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- Coming into their final debate of the California governor's race, Democrat Jerry Brown and Republican Meg Whitman had a chance to persuade a statewide audience they could turn around the economically troubled state.

Instead, their third face-to-face exchange resorted to many of the personal attacks that have dominated the last few weeks of the campaign.

Neither candidate presented any new ideas in a contest that is virtually tied just three weeks before Election Day and in which a fifth of voters remain undecided. A poll released two weeks ago found about half the respondents were dissatisfied with both candidates.

Before Brown and Whitman walked on stage, moderator and former NBC anchor Tom Brokaw told the audience at Dominican University that he planned to address not just the critical economic woes facing the nation's most populous state but the tone of the campaign.

The debate followed several weeks of personal attacks that had both candidates on the defensive -- Whitman over revelations that her housekeeper was an illegal immigrant and Brown over an audio tape in which a female campaign aide called Whitman a "whore" for pandering to a Los Angeles police union.

That Jerry Brown ever had a chance at election is proof of the stupidity of at least half the people of Kolifornia!!!

Well, we know the elite and the media don’t care but apparently some of the rank and file actually believe the “equality” and “women’s rights” they espouse applies to Republicans.

That what has shocked the left, that some of their followers actually believe the stuff they spread.

The person the audience should have boo’d was Tom Brokaw. If nobody asked the question then it wouldn’t have detracted the candidates. Face it, the people most responsible for the destruction of this country are the media.

Of course the NY Times, Beantown Globe, Washington Post and LA Times are running special additions with this as the headline.

Brown is a gaffe machine and his policies are Stalinist and will further wreck the California economy. He also is the definition of a worn out old re-tred politician. Yet it won't surprise me if the California voters, who are addicted to the heroin of government, vote him in because mean old Meg might cut some spending. California is Greece, it just hasn't had its crisis yet.

It really is a circus. Imagine an election for governor of a state as large as California, and the two big issues over the last month or so of the campaign are one candidate’s housekeeper, and the other candidate caught on tape calling his opponent a whore. Pure folly.

That’s what I think. Moonbeam already did his damage, and he is totally ensconced in the Old Union Politics that have gotten us into this mess. Meg Whitman is an entrepreneur. Her nanny’s whining has not damaged her. Moonbeam is a re-tread and We the People want better.

No one has commented on this. But Brown claimed that he did NOT agree that calling a woman a “whore” was a pejorative!

I think that comment is incendiary.
