It was way too much like the UN. Prime directive nonsense.

The whole cast were Canadian. It was like Second City sci fi. At least UFO had an American in the lead and he was ex-military. LAter in life he was a lefty.

Correct on the first part (B-17s in the Pacific). However, as the various histories of Star Trek make clear the whole "Wagon Train to the Stars" was simply his pitch to sell what he always intended as a social commentary series to the TV execs.
