$105 million out of the hands of the private sector - and they say this is a good thing, with a straight face!

>> Does this sound like a big government revenue-generating scheme or an authentic effort by bureaucrats to ensure French fries, hamburgers, filet mignons, deli sandwiches, donuts, ice cream cones, coffee, etc. are properly prepared?

Oh, clearly the former...

I used to work at Mickey D’s in high school... maybe I’ll draw on my vast burgerflipping background and create a chain of burgerflipper schools. I’ll help students get federal loans (for a kickback, of course) and I’ll buy a couple fast food places for “campuses”. Of course I’ll make a huge profit on the business too, because I’ll staff it with free student labor. In fact, they’ll be paying ME to work there. (nyuk nyuk nyuk)

We’ll teach remedial English, and by gum we’ll get those poor schumcks through that difficult state board with flying colors!

My students will graduate to a career in burger flipping with the best training money can buy, and $20,000 in (government guaranteed) student loan debt.

I’m gonna be rich! Not necessarily moral or ethical, mind you, but rich.

Well, let’s read the rest—

“According to the California Restaurant Association which supported the licensing law”

What does that sound like?

Another scheme for big restaurants and chains to squeeze out and put more burdens on the small guy.

They are paying big money to lobbyists and “free speech bux” campaign contributions/bribes to politicians. Certainly they are rational actors, they must be spending their money to profit.

Sen. Alex Padilla (D-San Fernando Valley) was the mastermind behind the Food Safety law that stands to bankroll the fiscally irresponsible state with $105 million in "food handler" licensing and training fees in 2011 alone.

Not to worry, Obama will give fast food places a "waiver" like he's done for McDonalds and the Muslims. Democrat dxxxxxbags. Wonder how many in the restaurant business voted for the party that wants to control every aspect of their business?

This doesn’t affect me. I’ve been boycotting California for years. And this exposes one of the reasons why.

Maybe they need testing and licensing for running for public office too! Cannot be paid from political donations either. 15,000 per term.

We’ll teach remedial English

Why bother? I guarantee you the licensing exam will be translated into Spanish, Russian, Tagalog, Chinese, Mayan and Klingon, and the state will hire tutors in all those languages for the underprivileged.

I was required to attend “grill school” in 1970 to work at McDonalds. This was an in house course which didn’t take money from the poor who needed it most.

....the state will pull-in an easy $105 million in 2011 alone...

So $105 million is going to help with budget short fall that is measured in 10's of billions? Something funny is going on here.

And I can see this being grounds for a racism law suit cause it's going to take reading and writing capabilities to pass the test.

Yes, there's something very fishy in all of this.

My state requires all servers, bartenders, and cooks have a food handler’s card. I guess I thought all states did. Here the class and card are really cheap (around $15).

Not too surprised.

Its stupid to regulate most things. The government always OVER REGULATES and kills not just jobs but the american dream for alot of people.

my husband is an electrician. He has been doing it for 25 years and he’s great at it. but he’s given up on getting his masters license. alot of trick questions. refuse to prove that you failed(think there are some tricks going on there) they already regulate it when they tell you how many years you have to have on the job training before you can sit for the test. but do they have to fill the test with trick questions? do they have to then tell you you have to pass an additional exam for a contractors license before you dare to open your own business(and i hear that one is harder and trickier than the first two) Then, if you finally pass all their trick exams that change all the time you have to pleasure of starting your own business, on your own dime and paying them tons in taxes to boot. people are sick and tired of all this regulation. does it produce better service? better product? i don’t think so, i’v seen some of the idiots who are licensed and i wouldn’t let them near my house!

No problem. The license application will be available in Spanish only.

I wonder how this will affect groups like the Knights of Columbus who run a lot of pancake breakfasts and pasta suppers?

The licenses will be available in McArthur Park, right next to the Driver’s License and Social Security card vendors.
