You can take the boxes of cornbread/redbeans&rice/other types of similar mixes and seal them in a vacuum pouch to extend their shelf life. Some items are OK dehydrated and will do OK in a vacuum pouch but freeze drying at home is not doable, as I know of today, even though it is a better way to store.
I know of no way to freeze dry without commercial machines to do so nor do I think it would be practical outside of the commercial setting. That is why it seems prudent to purchase the items you can preserve by dehydration, canning, vacuum sealing, etc. and paying the higher prices for freeze dried items it you not be practical for you to preserve (eggs, powdered milk, etc).
I have no found anything yet that I could not dehydrate nd have it come back just the way it should.I’d say that people who are having trouble are either using a cheap dehydrator or are drying way too log.
