Voter registration question
September 29, 2010 | self

Posted on 09/29/2010 7:48:16 AM PDT by huldah1776

I recently moved and registered to vote at my current location. I was curious about my registration at my past location. How do they know I am not there if I don't tell them? Just wondering.

TOPICS: Politics
KEYWORDS: registration; relocation; vote
Curious.

Your new state informs them. I have been registered in three states for the past 5 years.

“Your new state informs them.”

Yeah, but I doubt that a lot of States really purge the rolls after they’re notified, like they are supposed to. A lot of people are still able to vote in their new home, and their old one via absentee ballot.

I have three grown children, none of whom have lived in my voting district for several years. Two of the three live in a different state. When they look up my name at the polling place, I always see my kids’ names on the same page. I think the simple answer is that most localities do not purge the rolls of those who have moved (or died) in a timely manner. Of course, it’s a felony to vote in more than one location, unless you are a member of ACORN or the SEIU.

I will bet both of you are still on the voter rolls in each place.

it’s a felony to vote in more than one location,

Most states require drivers license or some official documentation with name, signature and current addressw. If they do not match your voter registration you are ineligible to vote. Of course, an old drivers license will work but it is a felony if you vote more than once.

They are supposed to check about your new and old addresses. I am not sure how they do it, but it does take them weeks to do it.

My sister was able to vote in two different precincts in one city after moving. I am also registered in two precincts, though I have the moral fortitude not to vote twice. I only know because my parents tell me every November that my name is still on the list at their precinct. I think it depends on the competance of whoever processes the registrations.

Don’t worry, the local RAT Party in your old location will be sure your name is purged from the roles (Wink...Wink!).

Your new state informs them.

Not so sure about that. Although I had closed on my home in Feb.'02 and started moving from NYC, it wasn't until April'02 that I officially changed my address to WV. I got my DL, registered my vehicle, changed my auto insurance, notified the PO and everything else attendant with such a move. The following Aug. the PO forwarded a notice sent to my old NYC address about which polling place I should use for the primary election. In Oct. I was forwarded a notice about the upcoming election.

IMO, the one and only reason I have received no further notices is because the PO only forwards your mail for one year. Also IMO, notifying the Board of Elections or who/what-ever handles this only gives them that much more time to use your registration.

BTW, my new neighbors were amazed to see that these notices were given in at least SEVEN different languages

My mother died in 2005. I took her death certificate to every agency — county, state, and Federal — to get her off their records.

Last year we received a jury summons for her. I went down to the county clerk's office and raised a sh!t storm!

I complained to the local Republican party but they told me there is no fraud here; yeah, sure. This small town is Democrat dominated with an unemployment level over 20%, much higher than the state's average.

I still suspect that my long dead mother, a lifelong voting Republican, is now actively voting as a dead Democrat. I just haven't been able to prove it.
